Located in Mt. Shasta City Park, the headwaters of the Sacramento River bubble forth from a spring to begin their several hundred mile journey southward to the ocean. Along the route, one will find many opportunities to enjoy water recreation. Lake Siskiyou offers camping, fishing and boating, as well as a public beach.
The upper Sacramento River, from Box Canyon Dam to Lake Shasta near Redding, is famous for its trout. But even if you don’t fish, the river offers scenic waterfalls, rafting and a soothing setting for concerts in Dunsmuir City Park where you can also enjoy the seasonal Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens.
Golfers have several courses to choose from in southern Siskiyou County. The Mt. Shasta Golf Resort offers fine dining in addition to a first-rate 18 hole course. Other courses are located in McCloud, Weed and Lake Shastina, and each offers its unique setting and features to golfers of all ages and handicaps.
