About the Owner
My husband and I bought this home in 2003, and completely renovated it using the beautiful straight grained red fir we salvaged for trim upstairs. The giant beams that hold up the porch, kitchen, and great room ceilings were taken out of the house in McCloud. I constantly marvel that in 1911, a railroad worker looked up at this piece of property and said, "I'm gonna build myself a house up there on that cliff!" This area of the canyon is stabilized be huge basaltic columns, but we've never figured out how they poured the giant concrete platform that the house sits on. Take a fun walk down to the river and look up from below and see if you might have been able to envision building your dream house up here. Head south on Dunsmuir Avenue to the motel, and turn left down the hill. If you're up for a longer walk, cross the bridge and stroll north on river Avenue to Tauhindauli Park. There is a paved path along the river through the park that switchbacks back to the river Avenue at the top of the hill. You'll walk through a little neighborhood to Dunsmuir Avenue and across the 800" bridge, which will take you back here to the Cottage. If you are enjoying some of the artwork here at the Cottage, you might want to visit Siskiyou Arts Museum downtown. We love our local artists and are sure you will too.
